2008 was a breakthrough year for the .pl ccTLD. At the end of December, domain registrations reached an annual growth rate of 73.5% and passed 1,300,000, making .pl the fifth largest ccTLD in Europe and tenth largest worldwide.
The registration of .pl domain names per capita is also very high: registrations per person are significantly higher than in a number of developed western countries such as Japan, South Korea, France and Spain.
If a rapid growth continues of around 9%, it can be expected there will be as 1,850,000 domains registered by the end of 2009 and the 2 million mark being passed sometime in 2010. The 1 million mark was passed in May 2008.
The development of the domain market in Poland results from the Registrys consistent activities that include the introduction and implementation of a fully automated domain registration system, and cooperation with over one hundred partners dealing with the domain management and registration.
