Domain names are divided into English Domain Names, Chinese Domain Names, Generic Chinese Domain Names, and various types. Their application requirements are listed below:

Specific English Domain Names

1. edu.tw: for registered educational and academic organizations. Authorize the Education Department to act for the application.
2. gov.tw: for government agencies established according to laws; authorize the Research Development Commission and Evaluation Commission, Executive Yuan to act for the application.
3. mil.tw: for national defense and military departments established according to laws; authorize the National Defense Department to act for the application.
4. com.tw: for legally registered companies or firms registered according to the commercial registration law and foreign companies registered according to the laws of their countries.
5. net.tw: for the license holders of the Type I Telecommunication Business or Network Construction (Installation), or the license holders of the Type II Telecommunication Business.
6. org.tw: for corporation or juridical association registered according to the laws; foreign non profit organization established according to the laws of their country.
7. idv.tw: for any natural person who may file application, however the identity of the applicant must be verified via email.
8. game.tw: requires no restriction to the applicant’s qualification. The applicant for registration has to select the attributes on his/her own, however the identity of the applicant must be verified via email.
9. ebiz.tw: requires no restriction to the applicant’s qualification. The applicant for registration has to select the attributes on his/her own, however the identity of the applicant must be verified via email.
10. club.tw: requires no restriction to the applicant’s qualification. The applicant for registration has to select the attributes on his/her own. However, the identity of the applicant must be verified via email.

Specific Chinese Domain Names

When applying for a Chinese Domain Name, the applicant should register a corresponding Specific English Domain Names first, and one Specific English Domain Name can only apply for one corresponding Specific Chinese Domain Names.

Generic Chinese Domain Name

Any legally registered company, business association, corporation, or R.O.C. citizen may file the application, and foreign companies may register under the law of their country.

Basic principle for applying for English Domain Name

• Based on the first come first served principal.
• The applicant could apply for more than one domain name.
• Applicant could choose respective domain name for registration in accordance with the types of names and their requirements, and apply with respective agencies.
• Applicants should attach relevant documents for their application of respective type of domain name for screening.

How to change your company name in your profile

You have to fill in the Application Form for Change the Company Name of Domain Name and fax with proper documents. Upon the receipt and proper review of your document, the Registry will process your request accordingly.

How to process the Transfer the Domain Name Ownership

To transfer the domain name ownership, you must present the certificate documents issued by the original registration applicant on the consent of such transition. The following documents shall be required:

1. Application Form for Transfer the Domain Name Ownership.
2. Prepare an Agreement of transfer for Domain Name in your desired format. The agreement shall contain the intent of the contracting parties for such transfer under mutual consent; signature with both corporate seals.

3. Small proprietorships: certificate for the purchase of uniform commercial invoice, or the notification on the assignment of uniform business code by the Ministry of Finance.

What kind of documents should be prepared for the application of org.tw?

Photocopies of incorporation documents of the applicant. For example, registration document for foundations (foundations, incorporation document for corporate entities, incorporation documents of private groups issued by the Ministry of Interior, etc.) and the domain name application form.

What kind of document should be prepared for the application of net.tw?

The applicant shall attach photocopies of class 1 license for telecommunications business or permit for the installation of network, or class 2 telecommunications business license and the domain name application form.

If the applicant is an academic research unit and the network would be use for academic purpose, it shall attach a plan on the use of the network when submitting the application. Upon the approval of the Registry, the application could be processed.

Is there any difference in using capital letters of small letters for the domain name in English?

Only small letters would be accepted for such application. Once approved, it would make no difference if the user key in the Domain Name in capital or small letters. Either the word written in capital letters or small letters would direct to the same URL or E mail Address.
